Modelling the Detailed Pattern of SRT Sequence Learning
نویسنده
چکیده
Any viable model of serial reaction time (SRT) sequence learning needs to be able to capture the relative extents to which participants learn different SRT sub-sequences. However, previous attempts to empirically establish a relative pattern of this sort have failed to fully control for ‘sequential-effects’, or have not satisfactorily ruled-out the influence of speed-accuracy trade-off. In this paper it is shown that, when sequential-effects are controlled for in a two-choice SRT task, participants learn those subsequences that end in an alternation better than those that end in a repetition. It is further demonstrated that, at least for the parameters investigated, a buffer network, a Jordan network, an SRN, an augmented SRN, and an AARN are unable to account for this pattern.

Dissociating sequence learning performance in Parkinson's disease: Visuomotor sequence acquisition and pattern judgment on a serial reaction time task.
In this study, the sequence learning performance of 16 non-demented patients with Parkinson's disease (PD) was compared with 18 age-matched healthy controls on a verbal version of the serial reaction time (SRT) task intended to encapsulate both visuomotor- and judgment-linked learning processes. Visuomotor sequence performance in PD patients was closely related to baseline response speed, with ...
متن کاملImpaired skill learning in patients with severe closed-head injury as demonstrated by the serial reaction time (SRT) task.
A group of 20 patients who sustained closed-head injury (CHI) and a matched control group of 20 individuals were tested on the serial reaction time (SRT) task. Three different sequence-learning measures were generated from the task: two implicit and one explicit. The two implicit sequence-learning measures include: (1) the learning rate on the first five blocks of the repeated sequence, assumed...
متن کاملPredictive Movements and Human Reinforcement Learning of Sequential Action.
Sequential action makes up the bulk of human daily activity, and yet much remains unknown about how people learn such actions. In one motor learning paradigm, the serial reaction time (SRT) task, people are taught a consistent sequence of button presses by cueing them with the next target response. However, the SRT task only records keypress response times to a cued target, and thus it cannot r...
متن کاملGeneralized lessons about sequence learning from the study of the serial reaction time task
Over the last 20 years researchers have used the serial reaction time (SRT) task to investigate the nature of spatial sequence learning. They have used the task to identify the locus of spatial sequence learning, identify situations that enhance and those that impair learning, and identify the important cognitive processes that facilitate this type of learning. Although controversies remain, th...
متن کاملMotor and non-motor sequence learning in patients with basal ganglia lesions: the case of serial reaction time (SRT).
In order to address the question of whether the basal ganglia are involved exclusively in regulation of motor sequence learning, or if they are involved in non-motor sequence learning as well, two versions of the serial reaction time (SRT) task were administered: First is the standard version of the SRT task in which the sequence is executed motorically, and the second is a non-motor version of...
